John Marsden Writing Topic #397

Write about a time when you learned from a mistake.**

The last time I learned from what I view as a significant mistake was about four years ago. I told a man I was dating how much I weighed, as I’m an overweight woman and I wanted to know whether he was going to stop talking to me over it. It was a mistake as he made passive-aggressive comments about my weight throughout our relationship and eventually broke up with me because he found me unattractive.

Whether stating my exact weight was a cause or a reason for his comments and feelings is unknown, however I learned to make it clear that I was overweight to future dating prospects without stating my exact weight. I also learned that I have to accept myself for who I am (including my weight) and not to tolerate these comments in the future from other men.
