John Marsden Writing Topic #351

Write a poem about the worst thing that ever happened to you but don’t say what it is**

Anniversary Pains

It’s here

we’ve hit ten years

I’ve got so much to tell you

there’s so much I want you to know…

To have you in my life was a blessing

But when I feel joy or sadness

I know that you’re missing

I know you loved me every year

for me to only have fourteen

and for you to leave in that way,

the world is just too mean.

So much has happened in the last ten years

that I wish you had been here to see:

the losses, the gains

the experiences and growing pains,

I hope I became the woman

you wanted me to be.

I’ll always wonder what if?

What if you lived a little longer?

What if we had just a little more time?

How different would our lives be

if you were around to guide me?

I’ll cry for each year that you won’t be around

each year that I am unable to make you proud

I’ll always cry each year

And will always wish

that you are here.
