John Marsden Writing Topic #350

Write a poem showing someone’s emotional state by the way they engage with a small object**

Symbol of Love

You sit softly on my finger,

you wedding ring of mine,

have been for quite some time

signifying this chapter of my life,

that is currently in strife.

Everyday I look at you,

and with my other fingers I fiddle,

trying to solve this inner riddle

of how I feel.

How could this be real?

Should I stay or should I leave?

Should I raise hell

or give him a reprieve?

I don’t want to be alone

but I’m not sure if I can stay in our home.

I’ve never dreamed of taking off my ring,

of all the trouble it could bring,

he should have just thrown away his,

if he really wanted a mistress,

he thinks that all I am is blind

but I can see right through his lies.

Maybe today will be the day,

with myself I’ll stop kidding

and finally take off this ring.
