John Marsden Writing Topic #496
‘Fat is a four letter word’**
Fat = Mean. The mean thoughts people have about me and my body. The mean things they want to say but don’t dare due to being at the receiving end of my death glares.
Fat = Ugly. Ugly is the word used to describe women my size and how people think we should feel about ourselves.
Fat = Size. Size, that domineering number that my self-esteem and worth are apparently supposed to revolve around. Size, that up-and-down equation that apparently says everything about my health.
Fat = Food. Food is what made me fat (apparently). Food is my enemy (apparently). Food is something I’m supposed to deprive myself of (apparently).
Fat = Diet. A diet is what I should be on, a diet is the way I’m supposed to live.
Fat = Dead. Dead is where I’ll be if I don’t change.
Fat = Love. Love is something I’ll never find at my size (apparently), love is something I don’t deserve at my size (apparently). Love is something I shouldn’t feel for myself (apparently).
Fat = Life. There are more important things to worry about in life than how fat someone is. Get a life!
