John Marsden Writing Topic #115

Take a controversial issue–a personal one of yours, or an issue that affects a lot of people. List all the people you think might have an opinion on this issue, then write what you think their points of view might be**

For this writing topic, I have chosen to focus on abortion.

I believe that some of my friends would have a pro-life stance due to their religious beliefs. I can think of at least three of my friends that would fit under this category–Gail#, Bonnie# and John#. I believe their point of view would be that life begins at conception and try to find a Bible passage of some kind to reinforce that belief.

I believe that some of my friends would also have a pro-choice stance due to either a lack of religious belief or a refusal to be religious, as well as whether they identify themselves as feminists (they do) and how strongly they believe in feminism. I can think of at least four of my friends that would fit under this category–Carla#, Beatrice#, Kelly# and Erin#. I believe their point of view would be that a woman has a right to choose what do with her body and that abortion should be legally and safely accessible.

I know of at least one friend, Stuart# that is neither pro-life nor pro-choice and I know that it is due to being a man and open-minded. As far as I know he is not religious, however I don’t know if he identifies himself as a feminist. His point of view is that a man should have a say in whether an abortion occurs or not because that man also pro-created the foetus. However he didn’t specifically state what way he leaned on the issue.

#Names have been changed.
