John Marsden Writing Topic #63

What picture books did you like the most when you were little? What did you like about them?**

There are two picture books that stand out to me as the picture books that I like the most–The Hungry Caterpillar and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

I liked those two books due to its pictures–Hungry Caterpillar’s pictures are bright and colourful, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’s pictures are like watercolour paintings with mostly light or dark colours.

I also like those two picture books due to the skills it taught me. The Hungry Caterpillar taught basic maths skills whilst We’re Going on a Bear Hunt was more poetic and taught poetic rhythm. I still have the rhythm of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt in my head almost twenty years on from first setting my eyes on it.
