Facebook Down! (Relax, it’s fixed now)

Facebook lovers all around the world have been dealing with the shock of the site suddenly but temporarily being down.

Facebook was down for less than an hour all around the world tonight (afternoon for most of you, it’s night here in Australia). Once the problem was fixed, Facebook released an apology but no explanation as to why users were provided with this message, “sorry something went wrong, we’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can” whenever they tried to log in.  Facebook was not only down on computers but on tablets, iPads and smartphones as well.

According to reports, Facebook was down for about half an hour and of course users reacted in the most expected way, they vented their frustrations on other social media websites such as Twitter, with #Facebookdown trending all over the world shortly after.

Users’ reactions were quick with a mixture of justified frustration mixed with hilarity and were a little bit sad. Memes were quickly made, one included a cute cat reading a newspaper with the words ‘I should go outside’ scrawled across the bottom and Twitter reactions varied such as “RIP Facebook”, “Where were you during the great Facebook crash of 2014 dad? On Twitter son, but I Instagrammed it.”

To tell you the truth, I didn’t know Facebook was down until I read the news reports. Although users’ reactions were justified, I found it interesting and a little sad that users didn’t find something non-social media related to do, to occupy their time until they could log in again. I love Facebook and use it multiple times a day everyday, just as much as the next user, and this is so obvious that it is a stupid question, but not totally unjustified, is this what we have come to?
