John Marsden Writing Topic #233
Write about the death of an animal.**
For fifty days the bushfire raged on, burning away everything in its path.
Once an emergency had been declared, everyone started to flee. Not everyone, humans and animals included, made it out. Some had died and others were stuck, slowly trying to make their way by foot, Percy included.
Percy, the stray dog who loved to walk around town and watch everyone, was left behind. Not by the townspeople’s choice, they couldn’t find him sleeping under the surprisingly unburnt bush that brushed against his fur softly.
When he awoke everyone was gone as the bushfire took over. The smoke burning his veteran lungs, he couldn’t bark but was determined to walk as normal, trying to find an escape.
He managed to make it out of the town, walking on the highway beside the fire trucks driving in and out. They were too busy to see him. He could barely keep his eyes open when he found a discarded but unburnt wooden board on the ground to rest on.
For fifty days the bushfire raged on, burning away everything in its path, Percy its next victim.
