Year of the Fun Walk 2019—2019 Lake Run and Ride (September)

My Year of the Fun Walk run for September was the 2019 Lake Run and Ride (formerly known as Lake to Lagoon).

This fun run was significant for me in many ways. This year marked the first time I had completed Lake to Lagoon since 2007. It is currently the longest distance I have completed in my four years of running (I completed the 10km course), and it was a 12-month goal that I managed to achieve.

In 2007, the Lake to Lagoon started at Apex Park, Lake Albert and concluded at the Civic Theatre in the Wagga Wagga CBD. A few years ago it was changed so it starts and finishes at Apex Park, turning around at the entrance to the Lord Baden Powell drive, across the road from Sturt Public School in Kooringal.

The 10km run started at 10am. For the most part I was going pretty well, happy with my pace. However fatigue, both physical and mental, hit me at around the 7km point. I wouldn’t say I conquered my physical and mental fatigue completely, but I managed to complete the course.

I completed the 2019 Lake Run and Ride, 10km course in 1 hour, 56 minutes and 56 seconds. Overall I was proud of myself as I got in under 2 hours like I wanted, however I was disappointed that I didn’t beat my April baseline (I was over by 3 minutes and 27 seconds).

Pictures of my training plan for the 2019 Lake Run and Ride, pictures from the day, and my Strava data can be found below.

*Please note my Strava data is slightly inaccurate as I started recording my activity a little too early.
