My NaNoWriMo 2018
I’m participating in NaNoWriMo again this year for the third year in a row, despite my failures in the previous two years to meet or surpass the 50,000 word goal.
Instead of trying to write a novel/novelette or micro novels, I’m going to kill a few birds with one stone by taking the opportunity to finish short stories I’ve been working or planning on working on and finish my self-imposed 600 writing topics writing challenge.
My plans for NaNoWriMo 2018 can be found below:

NaNoWriMo Short Stories
Instead of writing a novel for NaNoWriMo 2018, I’ve decided to use this month to work on short stories that I’ve been meaning to work on for a while but I haven’t been able to dedicate time to.
Where We Are Now: This is a sequel to my NaNoWriMo 2016 novelette, How We Got Here. How We Got Here told the story of Lorraine Ramieres and her ten children in the form of letters given to Lorraine by each of her children on her wedding day to her long-term partner, Travis. The letters told the story of each child, their lives with her and their father, Markus, before he died, and how Travis changed their lives.
Where We Are Now has each child updating Lorraine on their lives via email, as they prepare for her 60th birthday, 11 years after her wedding and the events of the first novel.
Encore: I started writing a series of short stories, Encore, about the members of a successful girl band, Go Girl, reuniting after 20+ years. After their former manager emails them their invites, each member tells their story of how their careers started and progressed through their years in Go Girl, and their careers and lives in the years that have passed since their disbandment in 2000.
Family of the League: Family of the League tells the story of an AFL family: former player and coach, Derryn, daughter, Elleigh, and her children, Nicole, and triplest: Henry, David and Michaela. I started writing this as part of another writing challenge, however I still have one instalment to write.
Untitled Witch Short Stories: This series of short stories is inspired by both Sabrina the Teenage Witch (television series) and Charmed. It’s a story about four witches: Elliot, his wife, Suzanna, their best friend, Zahra, and Zahra’s daughter, Zoey. In the first story, Elliot has died after an incident where magic was exposed, Suzanna travels back in time to prevent his death only to get herself killed in the process. Zahra has to go back and amend the situation. After she does, the series of short stories focuses on hers, Suzanna’s and Zoey’s lives as witches.
John Marsden 600 writing topics challenge: 3 years ago, I set myself a writing challenge to complete the 600 writing topics in the back of John Marsden’s book: Everything I Know About Writing. I’ve completed 397 topics so far, hopefully the projects above will help me get to the finish line.
