Mother’s Day Classic 2017–Brisbane (QLD)

On Sunday 12 May, I completed the Mother’s Day Classic in Brisbane.

The Mother’s Day Classic is a national fun run and walk that raises money for breast cancer research. The distances for the Mother’s Day Classic vary in each location, however in Brisbane there were two distances that participants could complete: 4.5km walk or run and a 8km walk or run. I chose to complete the 4.5km walk.

Weather-wise, the day was overcast with signs of humidity and rain. The course started on Grey Street and continued onto Montague Road, then onto Riverside Drive adjacent to the Brisbane River, finishing at the Cultural Forecourt in South Bank.

The colour theme for the Mother’s Day Classic was pink, with a large number of participants including myself wearing the colour in one form or another.

Only the runners were timed, so I timed myself by using the stopwatch on my phone. I finished at 54 minutes and 17 seconds–a minute over my training times, this was due to people mucking around doing handstands and other tricks at the finish line. Once I crossed the finish line, I was given a finisher’s medal, which you can find pictured below.

The Mother’s Day Classic 2017–Brisbane was the QLD leg of my ‘Fun Walking not Running Tour’.
