John Marsden Writing Topic #134
From Writing Topic #131 until Writing Topic #149 are “based on a book”. The book I have chosen to focus on is Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern.
Write a scene when a character from the book finds himself/herself in another book you know well**
For this writing topic, I have chosen to write a letter as Rosie to Alex rather than a scene to be loyal to Where Rainbows End’s epistolary form. The other book I have chosen to put Rosie in is We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen.
Dear Alex,
You’ll never believe the afternoon I’ve had with Ruby, Teddy and Gary. They heard this rumour that there was a bear roaming around Killarney National Park and decided to go on a bear hunt. I know crazy right!?
Anyway, we had go through the grass, a deep cold river, thick mud, even a forest and a snowstorm–still no bear. Throughout all of this Ruby, Teddy and Gary kept saying that they were “going on a bear hunt, it was a beautiful day and they’re not scared.” Can you believe that!
Anyway, we eventually got to a cave where things really got interesting. Ruby told us all to tip-toe through the cave and sure enough we found the bear. All three of them yelled out to run quickly back through the cave, snowstorm, forest, mud and the grass. We got back to the B&B and Ruby insisted on shutting the door (after she forgot to do it herself) and hiding under the covers, insisting they never go on a bear hunt again.
Why they ever wanted to go on a bear hunt in the first place is beyond me. I’m glad Katie wasn’t there, last I heard from her she said she was in Andorra and met a gorgeous ski instructor.
I haven’t heard from you in so long, how’s the family?
Love, Rosie.
