John Marsden Writing Topic #132

From Writing Topic #131 until Writing Topic #149 are “based on a book”. The book I have chosen to focus on is Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern.

Write a letter to a character in the book**

Dear Rosie,

I know that you know that your life has changed forever with a baby on the way and that you’re scared. However I’m writing this letter to tell you that having your baby girl will be the best decision of your life.

It won’t be easy, you’ll struggle with seeing your classmates starting their lives and seeing the world while you prepare to be a mother to Katie. You will have to put your dreams of working in a hotel aside for a few years but you will eventually get there.

You will have some setbacks in your life–you will have to work a few jobs you don’t like, you will fall in love and get married, you will have your heartbroken a couple of times and you will lose your father unexpectedly. However that doesn’t mean you won’t experience happiness–you will grow as a receptionist/manager with wonderful bosses, you will develop an unlikely friendship with your former teacher, you will find a wonderful invaluable friend in Ruby and you will achieve your dream but in an unexpected (but good) way.

Throughout all of these setbacks and positive experiences, Katie will always be there for you. It won’t be easy but you have nothing to worry about, you will find yourself to be a natural mother and Katie will grow into a wonderful woman who will end up becoming a DJ and travelling the world.

Your friendship with Alex will also have its ups-and-downs, as any life-long friendships do, but his friendship will be invaluable. You both won’t fully realise your feelings until you become young adults however you both won’t act on them until you hit 50. It will be frustrating but well-worth the wait and the timing will (finally) be absolutely perfect.

My final advice to you is to take everything that I’ve told you about when it comes, breathe, put one foot in front out of the other and even through the bad times, remember to fully live your life.

Best wishes.
