John Marsden Writing Topic #142
From Writing Topic #131 until Writing Topic #149 are “based on a book”. The book I have chosen to focus on is Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern.
How much is this book a story of an innocent person finding himself/herself in a situation that is incompatible with innocence?**
I believe Where Rainbows End is a book about two innocent people constantly finding themselves in multiple situations that are incompatible with innocence. This is due to the story spanning over 40 years from when Rosie and Alex are 6/7 to 50 years old, as they age they find themselves in multiple situations that are incompatible with innocence. These situations include: Rosie and Alex wagging school to go drinking only to end up getting caught due to Rosie unexpectedly needing a stomach pump, Rosie having to give up her dreams when she falls pregnant, Rosie having her romantic ideals shattered when her husband cheats on her multiple times and Alex’s romantic ideals on marriage being shattered when both of his marriages fall apart. These situations are incompatible with innocence due to Rosie and Alex being innocent or inexperienced when they find themselves in these situations.
