John Marsden Writing Topic #140

From Writing Topic #131 until Writing Topic #149 are “based on a book”. The book I have chosen to focus on is Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern.

How much do changes in the status of the characters give the book tension?**

Usually the status changes between Alex and Rosie revolve around their relationship status, in particular when their relationships are revealed to each other and/or when they are happy in them. Rosie’s discovery of Alex’s relationship with Sally and later Bethany, as well as Alex’s discovery of Rosie’s relationship with Greg and later her decision to stay with him, despite him being unfaithful to her, happens when their feelings for each other are at their peak. The relationship status changes the status of the friendship between Alex and Rosie and provides tension between the two of them, as well as provides tension in the book as it further delays the happy ending.
