Disney Era Analysis – The Golden Age
As mentioned in my previous blog post, this analysis series will be focusing on all 60+ Disney animated feature films and their film making eras.
The first era that I will be exploring is the Golden Age, which consisted of Disney’s first five animated feature films, and lasted for five years from 1937 until 1942:
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Pinocchio
- Fantasia
- Dumbo
- Bambi
The Golden Age is known for setting the now-famous features in Disney’s animated feature films – being based on fairy tales, taking well-known literature and turning it into a child-friendly film, movies about and from the perspective of anthropomorphic animals, exaggerated villains, musical moments, adventures, and comedic sidekicks.
While the Golden Age is looked back on fondly, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for Walt Disney and his studios, with some of the films not reaching critical and/or financial success.
The Golden Age ended with Bambi, with the Wartime Era kicking off the following year in 1943, which showed the effects World War II had on film releases, as well as Walt Disney’s studios and animators.
