A Letter to my Former Uni Classmates

To my creative and intellectual soulmates,

It’s been over a decade since we all graduated. I miss you all and I hope you’re all doing well. Before I moved to Wollongong and started studying creative writing at UOW in 2010, I never knew or met anyone like you. My family and friends back home were always supportive of my writing, but they weren’t writers themselves.

Being in class with all of you made me feel at home, made me feel like I fit in, and that me and my writing finally belonged. You all inspired me to be a better writer, to grow as a writer, and I loved every single piece of work that you wrote. I especially loved your edition of Tide in 2012, our third and final year (together, I wouldn’t graduate for another couple of years).

I see that most of you have gone on to have successful careers in our industry and I’m so happy for you. I tried freelancing full-time and failed, which sucked, but I’m so glad that I took the chance, even if I failed. I’ll never wonder, ‘what if?’

I’m still writing today, just on my own website, which has nearly reached the 300,000 hits mark. I’ve gone from being passionate and regularly writing fiction, to writing reviews of television shows and movies, as well as micro-fiction. What about all of you? How has your writing changed over the years?

I hope you’re all happy, and still writing and creating today.

I love and miss you all.

Your friend and classmate,

Rach.
