John Marsden Writing Topic #558

Write a passage in which something happens that seems real…yet when we think about it, it must be impossible.**

The Iron Lady

“Will you marry me?”

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard that question being asked between two people in front of me, but if I had to guess, it’d have to be in the several thousands.

They call Paris the “City of Love,” and there are plenty of other places these “loved up” couples can go to have their romantic moment – they could get engaged whilst walking along the Seine, or on a picnic at the Jardin du Luxembourg. If they really insist on having me included in their photos, they should go to Place du Trocadero, then they won’t be so close to me, and I can have some peace and quiet from their loud and excited voices, once the word “yes” comes out of their beloved’s mouth.

I don’t get why I’m linked with proposals and romance.

I’ve heard from some people that it’s because I’m “iconic” or provide a “magnificent backdrop.” The ones who propose at night apparently do it because my golden, orange, glow makes the big moment even more magical.

I’ll never understand it.

I’m just a Tower.
