Deal or No Deal

I’ve been sitting by my record player on one of my old, wooden dining table chairs listening to my old albums for hours, trying to self-reflect and decide whether to take the deal or not.

Listening to my old albums reminded me of who I used to be, writing hard, playing hard, singing hard, and partying hard – the typical lifestyle of a rock n’ roll singer/songwriter. Each album reminded me of a different version of myself, the apprentice, the up-and-comer, the master, and then the superstar. Rock n’ roll had given me so much – a privileged life, the ability to live my dreams, and fame and fortune.

But times are changing and so am I.

My foray into other genres have been met with mixed responses, mostly positive by my fans, negatively by some of the band’s fans who want me to stick with what they know and love, and especially negatively by my record label who clearly see me as their rock n’ roll cash cow. I’ll always love rock n’ roll, but I want to move forward with my life and my music, I don’t want to be typecast forever.

My foray had also been met with positive reviews by another label, Click Records, who think I have a bright future. They’ve offered me a three-album deal but I have to drop the other label.

I don’t want to abandon my other label, but they don’t want to let me go, so I think it’s time I let them go. Times are changing and so am I.
