This is the way the world ends

This is the way the world ends,

This is the way the world ends,

Not with a bang, but a whimper.

(T.S. Eliot)**

End of My Own Little World

Why did I put up with him for so long?

Every day my husband and I live the same routine—I make his breakfast (English muffins with strawberry jam, with an orange juice), I kiss him goodbye as he goes to work, and I stay home, keeping house and looking after the kids. He believes in the traditional gender roles in marriage, something he made bluntly clear to me when I once dared to tell him that I felt like getting back into the concrete jungle and back to work.

But all that’s about to change…I won  yesterday’s jackpot with enough money that I nor my kids will ever have financial worries again, and today’s the day I’m finally leaving him.

I’ll be making his breakfast like he expects, but I’ll reveal my plan to him by leaving a copy of the newspaper article about my win with a note next to it, “I won, this was my luxury spend with last week’s allowance.” I’ll walk right out the door and never look back as I slam the door behind me.

With the slam I’m done with him and our little old-fashioned, fucked up world that was our marriage. Bang.
